Senior Communities In Contra Costa
Senior Communities offer safety, camaraderie and support for you or your loved ones. Many include daily activities, companionship, transportation, meals, housekeeping, mobility help and medication monitoring.

Feelings of boredom, isolation and loneliness get replaced with daily activities and interaction with other people, while still maintaining privacy and independence - a Senior Community can offer peace of mind and a quality of life that might be worth exploring.

Independent Living
An active Senior Community that offers outstanding recreational and social opportunities may be a fantastic choice. Moving to a Senior Community can drastically simplify your life . . . Living in a Senior Community eliminates the fuss of maintaining a big house . . . This lifestyle represents a level of freedom that most people have not felt in years. Many people who have moved to a Senior Community have kicked themselves for not doing it sooner!

There are dozens of options available - everything from Seniors-Only apartments to wonderful resort-like settings where you can jump in - or - try before you buy to see if you like the community. I can help you explore a lot of these options - and share with you a few that you might not have heard about yet!

Assisted Care
Memory problems, medical monitoring needs and/or mobility limitations will all factor into the decision to move into a Senior Community that offers additional Assisted Care. Hiring an In-Home Caregiver might also be worth investigating. I have several ideas, suggestions and referrals that can help you in the decision making process. I can also help you in ‘asking the right questions’ to make sure the Senior Community you choose is the best fit for your family’s needs . . . Remember you have a TEAM working with you on this.

It all starts with a phone call to me, Wanda Wallis. I am the Senior Services Coordinator at Remax Accord - we have over 400 Agents in our group, which makes us one of the largest companies to offer FREE tours of several dozen Senior Communities in the Contra Costa and Tri-Valley Area. The service I provide is FREE and our first meeting will usually last about an hour. I will discuss the options available and give you a rough idea of the budgets you can expect based on your goals. Once we decide on your top choices I will make all the arrangements for a Tour - you will get VIP Treatment because of my relationships with many of the Managers. Age In Place - In-Home Care
Sometimes even the thought of moving to a new place - no matter how much good it would do - turns out to be completely over-whelming and out of the question. I have dozens of ideas that could help you or your loved ones stay in the home they have known for so many years . . . I have several Handymen or Licensed Contractors who can help make your home more accessible and safer . . . I also have relationships with several Care-Givers and In-Home Specialists who can help with the day-to-day needs which might make it safer and easier for you or your loved ones to remain in your home. Care-Givers can be hired to come by once a week for light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping or other errands - or on a daily basis as needed. I can also help if a family member would like to be a full-time Care-Giver - there are numerous classes that can teach Care-Givers on dietary needs, hygiene, medicine handling, emergency medical procedures and a host of other specialized needs.

FREE Referrals
I have an established network of people who can help with things that you probably didn’t know you needed . . . Elder-Care Attorneys who can help set up medical power of attorneys, wills, trusts and estate planning . . . Trustees who can oversee financial affairs if needed . . . Down-Sizing Specialists who can make a move effortless and organized - they even go as far as to catalog and take pictures of everything that goes into storage so that you can easily find things without having to go through every box . . . Furniture Consignment Stores - Did you know there are over a dozen in this area? They will help with any furniture you don’t want to take with you to your new place . . . Garage Sale helpers - lots of help if you have a garage full of tools, books, toys, furniture or other “stuff” that you are ready to recycle and turn into a little cash . . . I can make all the arrangements for a move to any Senior Community - from packing to setting up your complete apartment.

Costs and Budgets
The costs for Senior Communities can be very inexpensive - from $125 to $800 per month for Independent-Living Communities where you buy the home and pay monthly Home Owners Association Dues . . . Costs for homes in Rossmoor, for example, start at $99,000 and go up to $800,000 or so - although most will be in the $200,000 to $500,000 range . . . Most Senior Communities are set up to rent apartments and require no money down and no long-term commitments . . . Apartments can range from $800 per month for Senior Communities with activities and basic transportation. Budget $2,000 to $3,000 per month for Senior Communities with Assisted-Care Services and $6,000 per month for Senior Communities that specialize in Alzheimer’s or Dementia Care.

The Waterford in Walnut Creek is an often over-looked choice that combines the social aspects of an extremely active Senior Community with many of the services of Assisted-Care - for about 1/2 the cost (about $1,700 per month) - The Waterford is a very large Senior Community within the gates of Rossmoor - making it a Community within a Community - but you have to buy the unit, which cost between $150,000 and $400,000.

The costs for In-Home Care can range from $300 per month for weekly visits to over $3,000 per month for a Care-Giver 8-hours per day, 5-days per week. A lot of times it is less expensive to hire a live-in Care-Giver, paying them a small salary along with free rent and food. Multiply these costs by 5-years or longer and the costs can add up very quickly. In one or two meetings, I can help you zero-in on the options that make the most sense for your family’s needs.
